It’s back … “Crush – Lust – Stalk” where I am harassing artists, designers, stylists and ace bloggers. This week it is the incredibly talented and oh so stylish Wendy Morrison. YES – Wendy – designer of those drop dead gorgeous rugs!
I will never forget the first time I saw one of Wendy’s luxurious rugs in the Edinburgh kitchen of The Pink House Living. It literally stopped me in my tracks & (just between us – I was drooling all over the Instagram square on my screen). I remember thinking I had to meet this chic Wendy.
Fast forward 5 months from my first encounter, I decided to email Wendy & invite her over to my freshly renovated home. Who knows what I was thinking. Really, inviting a fashionable rug designer into my home that was yet to be styled and had a mash up of furniture (and not in a good way). I blame it on the lack of sleep from the wee fella. I can only just imagine what she was thinking. Yikes. That was over a year ago & I’m still bonkers for Wendy’s designs.
Wendy’s rugs are simply luscious and what caught my eye was the brilliant use of colour. From soft warm neutrals with glimmering accents to a collection of bright bold vibrant colours. Can we talk about her creatively original designs too??!! In a space where there is a lot of sameness, Wendy’s rug designs are in one word, refreshing. It’s clear to see that she is inspired by nature, the use of peacocks, cranes, hummingbirds, butterflies, palm leaves, rain droplets, trees. It all comes together in a magical way.
Indulge me for a moment, let’s have a quick gush over Wendy’s rugs as seen in the homes of Cranes in Trees rug in @cowboykate , Jardin de Chinois rug in @around_houses , Good Fortune rug in @oliverthomasesq , Sunburst rug in @wendymorrisondesign (Wendy’s own home) and the Wisteria rug in my home (as snapped by Susie Lowe).
Wendy’s taken a break from designing her latest John Lewis collection to play along in my Interiors Idols – Crush Lust Stalk quiz.
CRUSH … Today Wendy is crushing on this beauty, a high gloss sideboard, with the sexiest handles & legs from Anthropologie. Wendy says “I have just painted our dining room a lovely shade of pink and I found a rather special vintage side board that needs some love. I am thinking of giving it a makeover with some pearly white gloss but I am little apprehensive. This beauty would save me from the anxiety!”
LUST … Wendy is lusting after, guess what?! A peacock side table from Anthropology, unfortunately it’s no longer available in the UK.
STALK … Wendy confesses that there are so many fabulous instagrammers out there from all over the world that she literally discovers someone new every time she’s scrolling. HOWEVER one of her consistent faves is the maximalist designer and finalist of GIDC Oliver Thomas. She says “you are always guaranteed a daily dose of beauty, colour, and a super eclectic rich mix from Oliver!” I have to agree with Wendy, I still have one of Oliver’s DIY hacks on my to do list. The one where he completely covered a chest of drawers in a super rich luxe wallpaper.
Wendy’s got big dreams for her weekend takeover and is going to push someone out of their stately home (read: Mansion). She loves soaking up the history and the beauty of old pieces of furniture and artefacts. She’s been thinking about Gosford House since moving back to Scotland. She’s not sure if it is open to the public, unless of course you are a movie director!
Let’s take a peek into Wendy’s house … her lounge is possibly her favourite room at home as it has most of her fave pieces. There is a good dose of chinoiserie mixed with some of my favourite Brocante finds with a little splash of mid century!
Before I say a big “thank you” to Wendy for playing along, can we all please have a “love in” with her latest design, the extraordinary lush Renaissance rug. These shimmery butterflies in gold, pink, and teal are so elegant, so grand, so magnificent. One side of me thinks this rug belongs in a stately home with ornate surroundings yet on the flip side, I can just as easily see it in a terrace home with some mid-century or contemporary vibes. Of course, it’s styled beautifully in Wendy’s home. Yeah, it’s an investment piece but you gotta dream big, yes?!
That’s a wrap for this week’s Crush-Lust-Stalk. Hope you all have a FAB weekend. Come back each week to see who I have cornered into playing along – it could be a popular interior designer, maybe that artist who creates magical wallpaper, or that ace blogger. I’ll mix it up & keep it interesting. If there is someone you’d love to see, message me.
Cheers, Liz xx
