Scooped up National Prize in ‘Styled by Me’ Design Competition

EDINBURGH HOMEOWNER SCOOPS NATIONAL INTERIOR DESIGN PRIZE

Liz Engelsen from Edinburgh is celebrating after being named the winner of Anglian Home Improvements’ search for the nation’s best amateur interior designers, ‘Styled By Me’.

Eeeeeek.  I’m still letting these statements soak in. My head is spinning and I’m so incredibly happy, thrilled, ecstatic over being selected by Sophie Robinson.

Bring on the fireworks & confetti in the back garden as with the win, I scooped up a £1,000 prize as national winner of ‘Styled By Me’ winner by guest judge and much-loved (read iconic) interior designer Sophie Robinson. As I’m always saying “you have to be in it to win it” and this is certainly the case here. I first learned of the ‘Styled By Me’ competition last year and eagerly entered a freshly renovated and styled up photo of my lounge. So, I was patiently waiting for the competition to return this year so I could enter my beloved oasis, the revamped en-suite.

The winning pic is probably not a surprise as I have been obsessing over it since the renovation was completed in January. It’s my colourful, eclectic en-suite from a post on my InstagramfeedHere’s the pic before it was cut into a square by Instagram and of course, me proudly twinning with the bathroom back in March. I’m such a geek.

Now, I’ve been following Sophie on Insta for ages and watched all her TV hits from BBC One’s DIY SOS, BBC Two’s Great Interior Design Challenge, ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover, and Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders. When I decided to change careers and study Interior Design, I made a list of the Interior Designers I admired most and Sophie is on that list. Has Sophie Robinson ever had a chat about my designs or my house before?! Hmmm. Nope, not that I can think of, so I’m glowing from all the brilliant things she had to say.

Sophie then went on to say …

And it didn’t stop there … pinch me … is this a dream?!

She wrapped it up by saying … (me in tears of joy by now) …

If you are curious about my colourful bathroom and want to see more, I’ve written loads about it. You can read all about the revamp from my initial Modern Vintage Junaglow MoodBoard Ideas – then – how I made the jump from MoodBoard to the actual bathroom design – and – the final oh la la big reveal of the colourful en-suite over on the blog. Yes, there are three posts about the smallest room in the house.

What is the Styled by Me Competition?

Anglian’s ‘Styled By Me’ competition, which is now in its third year, celebrates the nation’s passion for on-trend interiors by inviting style-conscious homeowners to showcase their interior design successes.

The competition was open to everyone, from dedicated amateurs who love a mood board, to perfectionists who are committed to sourcing must-have items for their schemes – and even those who design on impulse and simply love to see the difference a few finishing touches can make. To enter, all people had to do was share a photograph of an area of their home or a complete room on Instagram.

Liam Kingswell, Digital Marketing Manager for Anglian Home Improvements, said: “We were inundated with entries for Styled By Me, which proves just how much pride and satisfaction people take from spending time styling their homes and sharing photographs of their stunning interiors. The standard was exceptionally high and, while we all thoroughly enjoyed taking a look through the entries, Sophie Robinson had a very tough job on her hands when it came to picking the winners.”

Liam said … “Our congratulations go to Liz for this fabulous area of her bathroom, which was styled in such a highly creative and individual way. She is certainly a very worthy winner.”

The Regional Winners

As well as a national winner, Anglian also announced a winner in each of its four divisions, with each of the divisional winners receiving a £500 cash prize. Just look at these lush homes.
